NEW FEATURES

FEATURE 3853 – Automatic price changes based on door and window properties

The Craftsman pricing database, upon which Symbility's pricing database is based, is extremely detailed and contains pricing variations that affect the materials price component depending on the properties of the door or window. There are so many variations that to list each variation of each type of window or door would result in hundreds of extra line items in the database. Instead of having more items to look through in the database, our designers chose to list only the "base" items and have the alterations to the material price applied automatically. For example, a vinyl awning window can have Low-E film, be argon filled, be single-glazed, may have tempered, laminated, obscure or polished wire glazing, or may have an aluminum grid between the panes or a removable grille.

Rather than list the hundreds of combinations that these variations present as separate line items, the database contains just the item "Window, awning, vinyl". When a window object is added to a wall in the Wall Editor, the various properties can be selected in the Properties Pane. Then when the "Window, awning, vinyl" database item is attached to the room, the materials price will automatically be adjusted accordingly, based on the properties specified for the window object.

When an item's materials price is automatically adjusted, one or more notes are also automatically attached to the item to document the price change that occurred.

The following tables list the door and window properties that will result in an automatic price change to the materials component of an item:

FEATURE 3660 – Automatic adjustments for minimum charges

Almost every item in the Symbility database has an minimum charge item associated with it. If one or more similar items associated with a minimum charge are added to an estimate but whose combined total do not equal or exceed the cost of that associated minimum charge, Symbility provides the option to automatically add an additional amount to the estimate (on the Totals page) to insure the minimum charge is met in the estimate.

For example, if the minimum charge for drywall work is $392.06, and a small drywall repair is being estimated which involves 2 line items that together total only $212.53, the difference of $179.53 will be shown on the Totals page as an adjustment. A checkbox labeled "Adjustments for minimum charges" appears above the minimum charge adjustments and allows you to apply the adjustments or not.

A new tab has been added to the Item Properties dialog box (double-tap any item to view) that provides the following:

  • shows the total for all items related to the minimum charge associated with the selected item (if this total does not exceed the minimum charge, an adjustment may be applied)

  • shows the minimum charge line item that the selected item is associated with

  • allows you the option of having an adjustment for this item's associated minimum charge appear in the estimate (Totals page) or not

  • allows you to view all related items that are also associated with the minimum charge.

FEATURE 3494 – Ability to quickly find claims in Claim List in mobile claims

Users have always been able to quickly locate a claim in Symbility.NET; now a "Find" feature has been added to mobile claims to allow you to quickly locate a claim if you know the claim number, policy number or insured's name, etc. (or any part of them). To use this feature, show the Find Toolbar by tapping Find on the Tools menu when viewing the Claim List. The Find Toolbar, which appears at the bottom of the screen, allows you to enter any string of characters (and it remembers the last 10 searches you've done) and locate the next (or previous) claim containing a match in any column of the Claim List. Successive taps on the Next or Previous buttons locate further matches in the appropriate direction.

FEATURE 1927 – Guest User Access to Your Claims

Symbility was designed to be a paperless claims system that allows for the transfer of graphic-rich information between people electronically, via the Internet. This feature answers the question "What if the person that I want to view my claim is not a registered Symbility user?" This will commonly be the case for the following parties who are typically involved in your claims:

  • Insured

  • Subcontractors

  • Insurance companies not yet using Symbility

  • Independent adjusters not yet using Symbility

The ability to share claim data with people who are not registered on Symbility.NET (and are not trained in use of the product) has been accomplished with the creation of a new type of user account that can be created for them called a Guest User Account. Anyone who has Internet access can be provided a Guest User Account to provide them limited, read-only access to one or more specified claim files. To do this, start by creating a Guest User Account. Use the Guest User Accounts command in the Administration menu of Symbility.NET to view any existing Guest User Accounts and the Create a new guest user account command on that screen to create a new one.

On the Create Guest User Account screen, enter a username that the user must use to login to the system as. You must also enter the user's email address and a first name and last name—all other fields are optional. An expiry date can be specified if you want to time-limit the user's access. Press Save to complete the new account. An email will be immediately sent to the user prompting them to validate their account by logging in a first time and creating their password.

Once you have created one or more Guest User Accounts, you can add these guest users as participants in claims which you are also participating in (whether you are the originator of the claim or an assignee). You do this in the same way as you would add a peer into the claim: with the claim open in Symbility.NET, select the Participants page in the Claim Explorer, then click the Add Participant command. Under the list of available users within your company (if you are the originator) or peer companies (if you are an assignee) will be a list of all available Guest User Accounts that you have created—select the one(s) you want and click Add selected guest user(s). The Participants page will now show this guest user as a participant in the claim as shown below. Note that all other companies participating in the claim do not see the guest users you have added as participants in the claim.

By default the General and Insured sections of the claim's Loss Summary page can be viewed, as can all diagrams. Completed estimates and forms that were present at the time the guest user was added to the claim are also viewable by default. To customize the information in the claim that is available to a guest user, use the Customize guest user account command on the Participants page. You can disable estimates or forms from being viewed, elect to hide the prices on the estimates if desired or allow completed estimates and forms that were created after the guest user started participating to also be viewed. The guest user is able to print any page.

The guest user is not immediately notified with an email about their participation in this claim—notifications are reserved for proper Symbility.NET registrants only—but now the guest user can access this claim in Symbility.NET. The screen that the guest user sees shows your company's logo (if one has been uploaded) at the top of the screen, and provides a minimal interface for opening, viewing and printing the claims you have shared with them, without requiring any training.
